Llysdinam Field Centre offers affordable accommodation in Mid Wales surrounded by beautiful countryside and close to the market town of Llandrindod Wells. The Wye Valley Walk and the Builth Wells to Rhayader cycle route pass close by. The Elan Valley (12 miles), the Royal Welsh Showground (6 miles) and the Brecon Beacons National Park are within easy reach. The bunkhouse with its adjoining kitchen and dining room comfortably sleeps 24. The kitchen facilities can be used for self-catering or healthy, tasty vegetarian meals can be provided. There is also a small self-catering flat for up to 6 people. All facilities are basic but comfortable, ideal for activities, workshops, conferences and study visits. An extra meeting room is available for hire. The Centre has a long history and ongoing future in ecological research. It also focuses on sustainability and education projects with a range of partners including artists, biologists and architects. Turn off the A470 in Newbridge-on-Wye onto the B4358 towards Beulah. Immediately after river bridge take the first right, signposted Llysdinam. After 0.6km take the second left turn (no cattle grid). Look for Field Centre 200m on left.
X47 Bus from Llandrindod Wells stops at Newbridge-on-Wye, 20 mins’ walk from accommodation. Trains are at Builth Wells and Llandrindod Wells

I was going to use the word ‘boast’ but actually their website simply humbly lists the academic associations from countless undergraduate field trips to ongoing permaculture research and doctorates by the sheaf. Covering subjects such as alternative building and construction materials (witness their thriving willow-culture); water habitats; species studies and so the list goes on. Literally pages of impressive published work.
The centre itself is a simple accommodation with shared areas, large dorms and office/classroom areas.
If you need a venue for a training event (scouts, conservation volunteers, community gardeners all use it) or a base for exploration, immerse yourself in the achievements of this humble centre.
