In fact, Bridges Long Mynd Youth Hostel can claim to be the second longest serving hostel in England. The longest being YHA Street (Somerset). In the 50’s it was known as the Hugh Gibbins Memorial Hostel. In 1991 it moved into private hands and became one of the earliest YHA Enterprise Hostels. In 2009 we welcomed Bridges into our Independent Hostel network. In 2026, Bridges Hostel left the YHA affiliation and is now totally independent.
Here at Seahouses Hostel, we are lucky enough to have a lovely, large, enclosed garden for all our guests to enjoy – and a great play area for children to have fun! The garden is used frequently for relaxation after a busy day of sightseeing; for fun and games; and for a variety of activities including arts, crafts and on occasion even camping!

Built in 1886 as a Methodist chapel for the village’s mining community, Greenhead Hostel was opened as a 40-bed hostel by the YHA in September 1978. After 28 years as a YHA hostel it was sold into private ownership in 2006. Initially it joined the YHA Enterprise scheme but pulled out in 2010, when it was sold for a second time. It was at this time, in 2010, that the hostel joined the Independent Hostel network. The hostel is run alongside the Greenhead Hotel, bar and restaurant on the opposite side of the road. Greenhead Hostel is perfectly located for stop-overs for walkers on Hadrian’s Wall and The Pennine Way.
The Boarshurst Centre is ideally located for group holidays and weekend breaks. Close to the Saddleworth Moors and Villages and only being a 25minute train journey into central Manchester!
The North Pennines AONB and UNESCO Geo Park and Northumberland offer you an opportunity to escape the crowds and queues by exploring this remote wilderness area.

The route, which is annotated on Ordnance Survey maps, is approximately 36 miles long and split into four easy stages. Those more energetic have run the course, whilst others have done it more leisurely over several visits to the area. The options are yours. Kings Hostel, in Dollegau is perfectly located for a real Snowdonia adventure for groups of up to 42. For walkers, runners and cyclists the Mawddach Trail passes the grounds. Kings hostel has a great bike shed or you can hire bikes locally. For those that need a bit more altitude, you can access both the Pony and Fox’s paths up to Cader Idris straight from the front door! Coed y Brenin, with its world famous bike trails, is 10 minutes away by car. For some sea air and sandy beaches Fairbourne is just a 15 min drive away.
This architect-designed luxury bunkhouse at the foothills of the Angus Glens ticks all the right boxes for its accessibility. The bunkhouse is on two floors, there’s a wheelchair-accessible lift and accessible toilets on both floors.
The Rookhope Inn is closed but there is plenty of home cooked scrumptous options to tuck into after your day out on the North Pennines.
