Easter Availability on Our Working Hill Farm

Wake up to views over the fields with the only sound being the cuckoos and sheep on the doorstep! We’re open all year round but with the lighter nights on the way, Easter is a great time to enjoy the unlimited outdoor space. We’re an ideal base for exploring Northumberland National Park including the International Dark Sky Park. Footpaths and bridleways criss-cross our farm – ideal for walking, running, on- and off-road cycling and horse-riding (paddocks available). If that all sounds too active for you, the farm is accessible by car and you don’t have to walk far to see the sheep, hares, grouse, curlews and archaeological sites. If you tick all this off the list, it’s only 5 miles to Ingram and the Breamish Valley with it’s fantastic little cafe and gift shop, or 15-20 miles to Alnwick and lovely sandy beaches.

Closure of Derwentwater Independent Hostel on 3rd March 2024.

Hearing the sad news of the closure of Derwentwater Independent Hostel, we would like to thank the trustees and employees of this amazing charity. Their hard work and investment rescued the hostel from closure when it was sold by the YHA and extended its life by a further 12 years. This has produced an amazing impact on the lives of many young people over the last 12 years, and given the rest of us an opportunity to stay in this grand building, an iconic hostel.

You can read the full announcement from the Trustees of Derwentwater Independent Hostel here.
