Scammonden Activity Centre, Sledge Gate, Scammonden, Huddersfield HD3 3FT
Ideal base for an outdoor activity based break, corporate events and freinds and family meetup
Set on the shores of Scammonden Water, Scammonden Activity Centre is a 17th-century farmhouse and barn, carefully renovated to retain their original character while providing comfortable, self-catering accommodation for groups of up to 42 people.
Designed with outdoor groups in mind, the centre offers everything needed for active stays, training weekends and educational visits. Facilities include a fully equipped, professional-standard kitchen, a separate larder with refrigerator, freezer and generous storage space, a dining room with serving hatch, and a large lounge that works equally well as a social space, study area or briefing room.
A spacious games and activity room features a bouldering wall, table tennis and a selection of large group games, and can also be used for lectures, presentations, team meetings and indoor activities.
Sleeping accommodation is provided in six dormitory-style bedrooms sleeping either four or eight people in bunk beds, together with a separate self-contained en-suite room with its own entrance (the flat), providing additional accommodation for up to six people.
Separate male and female toilets, and ample showers, together with a dedicated drying room, make the centre particularly well suited to walkers, cyclists, paddlers and outdoor activity groups. Secure indoor cycle storage is provided.
Outside, guests can enjoy an outdoor seating area with BBQ facilities and a surfaced games area suitable for five-a-side football, tennis and group activities.
Guests should bring their own sleeping bag, pillow, pillowcase and towel. The group leader will need to provide food, tea towels, washing-up liquid, hand soap and cleaning materials.
The centre is spread across three floors, benefits from central heating throughout and offers ample parking.
Activity boxes can be requested for use during your stay, with themes including Team Building, Nature Explorer and On Our Doorstep. Many of the paths around Scammonden are suitable for wheelchairs and pushchairs, making the area accessible to a wide range of visitors.
Scammonden provides an excellent base for walking, outdoor activities and exploring the rich history of the South Pennines.
