OverviewReopened in August 2018 after a major refurbishment, Helmsdale Hostel is set in the scenic coastal village of Helmsdale (halfway between Inverness and John O'Groats). The hostel has en suite private rooms, a fully equipped kitchen and a comfortable lounge area with log burning stove plus a large garden with lockable bike shed and bike washdown. On the North Coast 500 and the Land's End to John O'Groats route, the hostel is popular with 'end to enders' and walkers exploring the far north Marilyn hills such as Morven and Scaraben. An ideal stop when travelling to and from Orkney and great location for beach walks, archaeology, geology, mountain biking, horse riding, fishing, bird and wildlife watching. Dogs welcome on request. Directions:The hostel is situated on the corner of the A9 and Old Caithness Road. From bus: walk up the slope for 100 metres. The hostel is after the old church on your left. (200 metres). From train: Cross over the old bridge, turn right along Dunrobin Street, then left up Stafford Street. Hostel is 200m up the slope on the left.
Public Transport:Helmsdale is served by the City Link bus service and is on the railway line from Inverness to Thurso.

Helmsdale Hostel is a delightful place for festive celebrations with family and friends. The accommodation is very flexible and can sleep up to 24 in 6 fully refurbished en-suite bedrooms. There is an open plan kitchen and large dining and lounge area suitable for groups. Gas central heating and a cosy log burning stove keep you snug. Helmsdale is a friendly village with a choice of places to eat out, an enchanting museum and a picturesque harbour.
Helmsdale Hostel would be a delightful place this time of year to celebrate with family and friends. The accommodation is very flexible and can sleep up to 24 in 6 fully refurbished en-suite bedrooms. There is an open plan kitchen and large dining and lounge area suitable for groups. In addition to the gas central heating there is a cosy log burning stove which immediately makes guests feel relaxed and is often referred to as the hostels television, there is no television within the property. The hostel is equipped with fast BT wi-fi which covers all of the property a spacious garden area for guests use and a gas barbeque can be arranged in advance if guests wish to cook alfresco !
Helmsdale is a friendly and well serviced coastal village – having 6 facilities to eat from, a museum (The Timespan) and a few shops including a grocers and a picturesque harbour. There are a variety of walks for all abilities.

Helmsdale Hostel, the famous last nights stop on Lejog and great winter group accommodation, has reopened.
Reopened last week, Helmsdale Hostels has undergone sustainable refurbishments. Developments include renewable energy systems with an ethos to protect our natural environment and a complete refurbishment of the interior. Helmsdale Hostel is set in the scenic coastal village of Helmsdale (halfway between Inverness and John O’Groats).
