Set in the scenic coastal village of Helmsdale (halfway between Inverness and John O’Groats), the hostel offers spacious en suite accommodation including fully equipped kitchen and comfortable lounge area with log burning stove plus a large garden area. On the main Land’s NC500 and Lands End to John O’Groats route, the hostel is popular with ?end to enders’ and walkers exploring the Far North Marilyn hills such as Morven and Scaraben. An ideal stop when travelling to and from Orkney and great location for beach walks, archaeology, geology, mountain biking, horse riding, fishing, bird and wildlife watching. Dogs welcome on request. The hostel is situated on the corner of the A9 and Old Caithness Road. From bus: walk up the slope for 100 metres. The hostel is after the old church on your left. (200 metres). From train: Cross over the old bridge, turn right along Dunrobin Street, then left up Stafford Street. Hostel is 200m up the slope on the left.
Helmsdale is served by the City Link bus service and is on the railway line from Inverness to Thurso.
This accommodation allows dogs by arrangement, is by the sea, is near mountains, is available to individuals, is an 'Eco Hostel', has a pub within walking distance and is on the present or past youth hostel page and the North Coast 500.

Helmsdale Hostel, famous as the last nights stop on Lejog, is undergoing sustainable refurbishments. Things are progressing well but taking a bit longer than anticipated. Development will include sustainable and renewable energy heating and water systems, since the ethos of Helmsdale Hostel is to protect and respect our natural environment.
