Set in the scenic coastal village of Helmsdale (halfway between Inverness and John O’Groats), the hostel offers spacious en suite accommodation including fully equipped kitchen and comfortable lounge area with log burning stove plus a large garden area. On the main Land’s End to John O’Groats route, the hostel is popular with ‘end to enders’ and walkers exploring the Far North Marilyn hills such as Morven and Scaraben. An ideal stop when travelling to and from Orkney and great location for beach walks, archaeology, geology, mountain biking, horse riding, fishing, bird and wildlife watching. Dogs welcome on request (private rooms only). The hostel is situated on the corner of the A9 and Old Caithness Road. From bus: walk up the slope for 100 metres. The hostel is after the old church on your left. (200 metres). From train: Cross over the old bridge, turn right along Dunrobin Street, then left up Stafford Street. Hostel is 200m up the slope on the left.
Helmsdale is served by the City Link bus service and is on the railway line from Inverness to Thurso.

Planning to re-open in 2017
Helmsdale Hostel is in a small tourist and fishing town on the North East coast of Scotland and on the North Coast 500 route. Helmsdale is a great destination for bird life, coastal walks and hill walking. On Helmsdale’s harbor there is a lovely museum about Scottish life, with a statue in remembrance of the highland clearances. Helmsdale Hostel is also a well know stopover for the last night of the Lands End to John o Groats cycle ride. Closed for refurbishment in 2016 plans are afoot to reopen this much loved hostel in 2017.
Helmsdale Hostel is the perfect last nights rest before reaching the end of the journey at John o Groats.
