Bradwell War Memorial Hall is in the pretty village of Bradwell in the heart of the Peak District. This community run hall offers low cost self-catering accommodation to groups of 6-42. There’s a well equipped kitchen, hot water, toilet blocks with one male and one female shower. What’s more its centrally heated. There are no bunk beds, so you must bring your own sleeping mat and bedding. With footpaths on the doorstep its worth the low cost of an overnight stay. Little wonder that the unique and magical Skiddaw House Hostel has been nominated fro BEST HOSTEL in The Great Outdoors 2024 awards. Situated in wonderful isolation, 3.5 miles from the nearest road on the side of Skiddaw in the Lake District, it is the highest hostel in the country. The perfect base for walkers on their way to the summit of Skiddaw, for those doing the Cumbria Way or others wanting to explore the northern fells.
Elterwater Hostel has been nominated for BEST HOSTEL for the second time in The Great Outdoors Awards. In 2021 Elterwater was awarded 3rd place. “Friendly”, “fantastic” and “awesome” were but a few of the superlatives voters used to describe Elterwater Independent Hostel back then. It is set in an idyllic location close to the Langdale Pikes. Others praised the “friendly and most helpful staff”, the “great food” and facilities including a well-equipped kitchen and “proper lounge”. It has a “great location for some fantastic walks with a super pub and restaurant just down the road” commented another voter. Can this wonderful hostel go one or two better this year? What a well deserved nomination for this fantastic bunkhouse surrounded by the best mountain scenery this country has to offer. With with countless Munros, Corbetts and Grahams not to mention The North Coast 500 on the doorstep, it’s the perfect base for mountaineers, hill walkers and cyclists.
