Remote hostel on the Isle of Ulva

Situated on the community owned island of Ulva with a resident population of fewer than 15 people, Ulva Hostel gives guests the unique chance to experience the magic, solitude and serene beauty of a remote Scottish island. The island of Ulva lies just off the west coast of Mull and can be reached by a small, community owned but privately-operated ferry. There are no roads so cars are left at Ulva Ferry car park. Just bring your walking boots, your binoculars and an open heart.

The hostel, built in 1860 as a shooting lodge, has undergone extensive renovation and opened to its first guests in May 2023. It sleeps a max of 14 people across 5 beautiful rooms. There are 2 4-person dorms with bunks, 2 doubles and 1 double/twin. Book by the bed, the room or book the whole hostel. Facilities include a fully equipped kitchen, a large living room, a separate dining room/workspace room and a sauna. There are also 2 family-sized yurts (dog friendly) in the grounds. The yurts share the facilities in the main hostel.

During the summer months the Boathouse on Ulva, is open for refreshments and lunches prepared from locally sourced produce.

The views, the silence, the dark skies and the wild life on the island are guaranteed to stay with you for the rest of your life.

This hostel is a 20 minute walk from the pier up past the church, in a secluded area of the island. Luggage transfer can be arranged if required.

Camping in the grounds is available for overflow guests.
