7km from the Mountain Biking the Coast to Coast

If you have a support vehicle (or fancy a famous road climb) then Chapel Gallery Bunkhouse in Wensleydale is a great option to stay at when you are doing the Mountain Bike Coast to Coast. To get to Hawes you have to drive for 7km (or bike if you have the legs for it) over the infamous Buttertubs Pass. With 350m elevation and spectacular views down Swaledale, then over to Ingleborough, and down Wensleydale, it is a stunning route.

What an incredible find! Oswald’s Trail!

This trail is a 13 mile circuit of Oswestry, Shropshire. The trail includes many historical points of interest including the Old Race Course & the Iron Age Hill Fort. It’s a National Trail that runs alongside the English/Welsh border.  The trail is divided into five sections, making it possible to walk it in stages.

Day 8 on Wainwright’s Coast to Coast path, 14 miles east of Reeth.

Brompton on Swale Bunkbarn offers great value accommodation and a pot of tea for weary walkers when arriving on the Coast to Coast. 0.5 miles from the footpath or directly on the route if using the main road. Book a bunk or a private room. Self-catering kitchen and lounge. Sleeping bags and towels can be hired. There is a shop directly opposite and a pub 100m away that serves lovely pub grub and breakfast. Lots of reviews on Google.

The Rookhow Retreat Away scheme offers subsidised stays for community groups. Groups have to apply- 2 rounds a year in April and October. This scheme is aimed at people who would not otherwise be able to afford a break away. 25%/ 50% or 75% funding for the accommodation depending on need and availability of funds.
