Thornbridge Outdoors offers excellent flexible group accommodation for family and friends’ gatherings. In a fantastic location in the heart of the Peak District, Thornbridge Outdoors is a perfect base to access the wonderfully diverse countryside and interesting towns/villages of the Peak District. The Monsal Trail is accessible from the grounds; popular with walkers and cyclists, a flat, traffic free route of 8.5 miles between Bakewell & Blackwell Mill near Buxton. The gritstone edges of Froggatt and Stanage are within easy reach. The Lodge, Farm House and Woodlands buildings sleep 38, 38 and 10 people respectively and are self contained, each having its own kitchen and dining/lounge area. The Woodlands and the Lodge are both all on one level and have disabled toilet/shower room, making them suitable for wheelchair users. Woodlands also has other accessible features such as hoists and a single profiling bed. The Farm House, a Grade 2 listed 19th century building is characterful with some quirky shaped rooms in the attached roundhouse. The campsite & teepees can be booked along with the Base Camp building that contains toilets, showers, kitchen and dining room. The new building “Woodlands” is now open for bookings
The Thornbridge Centre in the Peak District have just opened a new building , Woodlands, which caters for groups which include those with additional needs. It stand in mature woodland and has rural views. Sleeping up to 10 people in two rooms with a large flexible main room which can be a living and dining room, a bedroom, or a meeting room for up to 12 people. There are kitchen facilities, an enclosed decking and patio area with seating and 50” wall mounted TV, Blu-ray player. The building has a sustainable build with natural materials, excellent insulation, ground source heat and a water catchment system for watering the garden.
Our facilities can work for groups young and not so young and our activities can be tailored to your needs!
As Sheffield City Council’s outdoor education centre Thornbridge Outdoors provides high quality outdoor and environmental education experiences to young people. Visits can be for 1, 2, 3 or 4 nights as well as single days. At any one time Thornbridge Outdoors can accommodate 38 people in the Lodge, 31 in the Farm House, up to 45 in teepees and 40 camping, and schools can book a combination of these depending on their requirements. Thornbridge Outdoors is located in the heart of beautiful Peak District countryside, but just 45 minutes from Sheffield, an hour and 15 minutes from Nottingham and Manchester. A programme of activities can be tailored to meet each schools aims and outcomes and activities take place both onsite and offsite in the Peak District. Alternatively schools can use our flexible facilities as a base and do their own thing. CPD is offered for staff to be able to lead some activities in addition to the instructed activities.
