OverviewThornbridge Outdoors offers excellent flexible group accommodation for family and friends' gatherings. In a fantastic location in the heart of the Peak District, Thornbridge Outdoors is a perfect base to access the wonderfully diverse countryside and interesting towns/villages of the Peak District. The Monsal Trail is accessible from the grounds; popular with walkers and cyclists, a flat, traffic free route of 8.5 miles between Bakewell & Blackwell Mill near Buxton. The gritstone edges of Froggatt and Stanage are within easy reach. The Lodge, Farm House, Woodlands and 2 The Woodlands buildings sleep 38, 38, 10, and 4 people respectively. All buildings are self contained, each having its own kitchen and dining/lounge area. The Woodlands and the Lodge are both all on one level and have disabled toilet/shower rooms, making them suitable for wheelchair users. Woodlands also has other accessible features such as hoists and a single profiling bed. The Farm House, a Grade 2 listed 19th century building is characterful with some quirky shaped rooms in the attached roundhouse. The campsite & teepees can be booked along with the Base Camp building that contains toilets, showers, kitchen and dining room. Outdoor activities led by qualified instructors can be provided both onsite and offsite at an additional costs (subject to availability). Additional meeting spaces can be hired with the accommodation.

Disabled Accessible features of Thornbridge Outdoors

If you’re a traveller with mobility issues, it’s very important to make sure your accommodation suits your needs. To make the choosing process as easy as possible, we’ve gathered some details on the accessible features of Thornbridge Outdoors to help you make your decision
Thornbridge Outdoors have a fully accessible bunkhouse known as ‘Woodlands’, which includes the following adaptations:
- Level access throughout, no steps or stairs and wide door ways for wheelchair access (see room plan for widths)
- A Maxi Sky remote controlled ceiling mounted hoist system (maximum weight 200kg) with a 2 point loop spreader bar (please bring your own slings) which connects the accessible bedroom to the en-suite shower room
- An en-suite shower room with a large shower area, Chiltern Invadex TRT3 shower trolley (maximum weight 190kg), adjustable height sink, toilet with grab rails and emergency pull cord
- Etac Clean shower commode chair & belt
- Casa Lift 180E electric mobile hoist (maximum weight 180kg)
- Invacare Accent single profiling bed (maximum weight 145kg) with a Countrywide Healthcare Picara low risk polyurethane foam mattress
- Emergency pull cord in the accessible bedroom
- Accessible outside toilet
- Disabled car parking space right outside the front door
Unfortunately, whilst this building works incredibly well for people with a variety of specific needs, it has not been designed to facilitate independent living for wheelchair users. It is expected that able bodied group members will be present as part of a group booking the building.
Historic Peak District outdoors centre opens again on 12th April

At last we can welcome guests again. We’re taking single households from the 12th April and two households from the 17th May all being well with the roll out of the road map. Then hopefully we can welcome back large groups from the 21st June.
