Comfortable accommodation and a whole range of activities.
I’ve often cycled past Thornbridge Outdoors, near Bakewell (not to be confused with Thornbridge Hall) and thought it looked super. My family and I have cycled the rewarding Monsal Trail (one of those old-railway-lines-turned-into-cycleways) many times. It’s a lovely 8 mile easy run up to Blackwell Mill with an ice cream at Miller’s Dale. There’s an old railway station where we sometimes sit to catch our breath, Thornbridge is just there (it is a private site so you can’t just wander around).
The old large building you can see that spans to either side of the arch was a private waiting room for the railway, for the guests of Thornbridge Hall. The accommodation comprises of the Farm House, Lodge, Woodlands and 2 The Woodlands and a group camp site with seasonal Teepees (you can’t see these from the track). You can hire some or all of them for your group or family gathering. Woodlands and the Lodge offer accessible wheelchair accommodation.
Of course we’re right in the Peak District here, so as well as the Monsal Trail, you’ve got easy access to the ‘edges’ of Froggat and Stanage; all the wonderful walking and cycling; and some great cave systems too.
If you’re looking for a base for group activities, Thornbridge Outdoors can provide both comfortable accommodation and a wide range of activities.
