Wild Swimming in Eryri

Lodge Dinorwig is perfectly placed for wild swimming adventures in Snowdonia. From the clear waters of Llyn Padarn just below us to hidden lakes and rivers nearby, it’s a swimmer’s dream. We’ll point you to our favourite spots, where to hire kit and how to cool off in style after a hike.

If a refreshing dip after a hike sounds like your thing, wild swimming in Snowdonia is hard to beat – and we’ve got some great spots just a short drive from Lodge Dinorwig.

Llyn Padarn is the easiest one to reach – you can see it from our car park! This lake in Llanberis is popular for swimming with stunning surroundings. You can access it from various points along the shore, and if you fancy more than a dip, Snowdonia Watersports in Llanberis hires out wetsuits, paddleboards, and kayaks too.

A little further out, there’s Llyn Gwynant, which has a beachy feel and is perfect for a post-hike plunge (especially if you’ve just tackled the Watkin Path). Then there’s Llyn Dinas, quieter and a bit more tucked away – great for a peaceful swim with a mountain backdrop.

And if you’re craving sea air, North Wales has some brilliant beaches for swimming. Newborough Beach on Anglesey is a favourite – wide sands, shallow waters and a view across to Snowdonia. Dinas Dinlle is another good option, especially at low tide when the sea is calm.

We’re always happy to share our favourite wild swim spots when you stay – and we won’t tell if you sneak a flapjack in for after!
