Spring half term in the lakes!

       Denton House

As the nights are getting lighter and the better weather is coming why not come and make the most of it here at Denton House hostel!! Denton House is the perfect place for you and your friends to come for a long or short break to the lakes this half term. We have the Keswick markets on Thursdays and Saturdays, where you can look at some of our local stalls and enjoy the international food stalls. There are many walks to do that are suitable for all, with amazing views and opportunities to meet new people along the way.

Mendip Hills National Landscape

       Mendip Bunkhouse

Rising from the Somerset Levels the magnificent Mendip Ridge stretches all the way from Brean Down in the west towards Frome in the east. The western half is designated as an AONB due to the astonishing array of gorges, caves, valleys and lakes. On the Somerset Levels near these landscape features lies Mendip Bunkhouse, the HQ of the Cerberus Spelaeological Society. A society of Cavers to a layman, the bunkhouses generously offers accommodation to individuals and groups, providing low-cost access to the Mendips National Landscape and the caves beneath it.

Solway Coast National Landscape

       Hillside Farm Bunkbarn

Stretching along the Cumbrian shore of the Solway Firth, this is a low, open, AONB with wide views across to the hills of Dumfries and Galloway. A dynamic seascape with a huge intertidal range, it is an overwintering ground for a vast number of birds and is visited by seals, dolphins, and porpoises. The falling tides expose wide stretches of sand and salt marsh giving a sense of remoteness. The area has a rich historical heritage associated with its position on the Scottish border, the frontier of the Roman Empire, and a World Heritage Site. This is enjoyed by walkers and cyclists on the Hadrian’s Cycleway, the England Coast Path and Hadrian’s Wall Path National Trail. Hillside Farm Bunkbarn provides low-cost access to the National Landscape and overnight stays for people on the Trails. A Georgian working farm, with stunning views over the Solway Firth marshes and the Soleway Coast. B&B rooms are available in the farmhouse and the bunkbarn has cooking facilities, hot showers and is heated with a bio mass boiler

Impossible perfect villages such as Shere and Abinger are great for exploring local food and art and crafts architecture. Puttenham Barn Bunkhouse, on the North Downs Way, offers simple accommodation for walkers & cyclists in the Surrey Hills. It is a converted historic barn with a volunteer warden to welcome you.

Cornwall National Landscape

       Lands End Hostel

Cornwall National Landscape is unique, it is the only AONB that has 12 separate sections. It includes most of Cornwalls world-renowned coastline, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and a host of natural and heritage features. The north sections range from dramatic headlands, to extensive rolling dunes. The south coast is softer with sheltered coves and picturesque fishing villages. Between the two lies the granite intrusions around Land’s End, rocks rich in minerals that have been mined for centuries and the old engine house chimneys still stand sentinel against the sky, emphaisising the wild isolated character of the coastline. Land’s End Hostel is situated in the small hamlet of Trevescan, just 1/2 mile from the coast. Converted from a Mill Barn it provides warm and well equipped private hostel rooms with a shared fully equipped kitchen and a summerhouse to lounge in.
