Another fab group hostel joins the Independent Hostel network
We are delighted to introduce Wharfeside House to our readers. Situated in the picture postcard village of Kettlewell in the Yorkshire Dales National Park, this traditional group only hostel accommodates groups of between 15 & 30 people, all on a sole use basis. It makes the perfect base for clubs, schools and gatherings of friends/families looking to immerse themselves in the beauty of this corner of Yorkshire. The walking is fantastic with the Dales Way passing through the village. This area is also popular with road cyclists, mountain bikers, bird watchers, artists, cavers, pot-holers, climbers and fishermen/women. In fact there is something for everybody. And as with all our hostels, you’ll be amazed what great value it is.
Lismore, a Hebridean haven
The low lying fertile isle is located 7 miles form Oban in the inner Hebrides. The name Lismore is derived from the Gaelic “Lios Mòr” meaning great garden. The isle has a rich Gaelic tradition which can be seen in the beautiful ruins of Castle Coeffin. The tranquil green expanses of provide an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and the stunning views of the surrounding islands and mainland will take your breath away. You can even see the summit of Ben Nevis on a clear day.
Opened in 1952 and still going strong!
Borth Youth Hostel in Cardigan Bay opened up as a YHA on Good Friday 1952. It was sold in July 2014 and continued to be run as an independent hostel under the YHA Enterprise scheme. Still to this day this lovely Edwardian house, right on the edge of the beach, is affiliated to the YHA.
30 years aniversary at Corris Independent Hostel
16th April 2022 is a special day. Thirty years ago and a Good Friday, 15th April 1992, Corris Youth Hostel re-opened to the public after a major refurbishment. The hostel had been gutted and as the first visitors were arriving, the workmen were leaving. There was a mutual meeting point where they shared a glass of wine. In addition, the school building is 150 years old this year.
Don’t let the sun go down without visiting Hunstanton
This part of Norfolk is often overlooked even though it has spacious beaches, fantastic walking paths and excellent wildlife. As the town of Hunstanton over looks “The Wash” its one of the few places in eastern England where the sun sets over the sea. Eating fish and chips while watching the sun go down after a long day walking or exploring is one of life’s great, simple pleasures.
