Built from mainly recycled materials, the Boathouse sleeps 12 in 3 insulated first floor pods. Downstairs three further pods house a full kitchen, dining room, sitting area and utility room. These open out onto a covered deck with seating/dining. Right on the Wales Coast Path, easy access for launching boats, great fishing and swimming. Activities providers available for foraging, climbing, cycling, kayaking and paddleboarding.
We’re really keen to develop an offering for schools at Youlgreave Hostel in the Peak District. We’re happy to assist where needed to help make the experience as smooth as possible for teachers. While we don’t routinely provide a full risk assessment, we can certainly offer one on request. We’re also on hand to give advice about local activities, walking routes, and any useful contacts in the area.
As the season slowly comes to an end, we’re opening up our hostel availability for exclusive use by large groups throughout the winter months. So if you have a school group, university club, mountaineering group, big family gathering or simply want to bring all your friends up to Skye then get in touch with us about renting the entire hostel out! This is a great chance to see Skye when it’s at its most serene.
The rooms have been emptied of furniture and a building contractor is in the final stage of being engaged. Here is our new room layout, which creates an option for bedroom hire to individuals, families and smaller groups that are willing to share the kitchen and living areas, as well as exclusive hire to groups. We don’t know precisely when the Centre will reopen, watch this space where we will provide online booking as soon as we are ready to start taking bookings for 2026. Jillie at Gilfach Wen Barn can provide the school group leaders with contacts to the Grazers committee who manage Llanllwni Mountain, and the NRW staff who run the permissions system for Brechfa Forest. She is also the director of the community Forest School site and can facilitate its use for craft and green woodworking groups. The barn has 7 bunkrooms including one accessible downstairs bedroom.
Bring your school to The Byre at Millhouse on the Isle of Tiree, to learn through experiencing wildlife and a small island community. The Byre at Millhouse sits on the site of Cornaigmore Mill and offers hostel style accommodation. It sleeps16 across 4 rooms.
Our magnificent 16th century barn offers a ‘somewhere different’ accommodation base for new learning experiences. Bring your school to take part in outdoor adventure, eco-challenges, history and archaeology (Tudor & WWII), environmental studies, wildlife courses and general activities for schools.
Cowes Base Camp is located at UKSA, a charitable organisation and leading watersports centre for school residentials. AALA Licenced with accreditation for activities, it provides full risk assessments and has been awarded the LOtC Quality badge. It prides itself on giving students the opportunity to learn and achieve qualifications while taking part in activities. The Base Camp is directly on the waterfront and has accommodation for 300, flexible catering options, a canteen, an indoor heated swimming pool and sports hall.
This hostel hosts some adventure companies and would be glad to talk to any teachers who would like to try it out for a school group. Just three miles from St Ives & 5 miles from Penzance. The hostel provides self-catering accommodation with four twin rooms, one alpine dormitory for 12, and a self-contained maisonette. BYO sleeping bags.
Lon Dryll offers comfortable and affordable accommodation for school groups of between 10-30. It is secluded; down a private drive with a large car park and grassy areas for the kids to play. Facilities include a classroom/games room , large kitchen, dining room, drying room and lounge. The bedrooms are split between two buildings with provision for separate leaders’ rooms. The bunk house sleeps 17 in 4 rooms of mainly bunk beds, the main house sleeps 13 in 3 rooms of double and single beds.

The Isle of Skye is incredible during Autumn! The leaves change, the weather settles (generally) and the roads quieten after the schools go back. It’s a wonderful time to visit us up in Skye and we have availability from September through to the end of the year online!
Roasting chestnuts over the campfire….yum! Shining Cliff hostel is located off-road, in the heart of Shining Cliff woods, an ancient woodland that is a Site of Special Scientific Interest.
There are many coppiced Chestnut trees in the woods, and quite a few on the half mile footpath from the private woodland car park to the hostel, and in the autumn time the path is littered with chestnuts that are perfect for roasting over the campfire in the stunning hostel fire pit area.
