Long distance walks and long distance cycling are an excellent and very rewarding way of seeing the country. And what better way is there to experience the local culture than to stay at Independent Hostels along the route. Independent Hostels cater specifically for walkers and cyclists with drying rooms, secure bike storage and single over night stay welcome. They have self catering kitchens and common areas where you can meet other walkers and cyclists on the trail. There are often private rooms and sometimes meals can be provided. Even the basic camping barns provide a much lighter option then camping, allowing you to enjoy the trail without heavy packs and panniers.
Doing any long distance walk using B&B’s and hotels is an expensive business and bunkhouses and hostels are great accommodation and very comfortable these days. What ever trail you are looking at there is sure to be some independent hostels and bunkhouses near the route. For some of the iconic Long Distance Walks such as the Pennine Way and long distance cycling such as the C2C route, we have created articles showing the hostels and bunkhouses along the route. Links to these articles are shown in the table below.
There are many other walks and trails such as Hadrian’s Wall, Offas Dyke, Wales Coast Path, South Downs Way and North Downs Way. For these you can research your route using our detailed maps of hostel and bunkhouse locations. There are links to these maps on the table below.
