Evening is the best time to swim at Cwmtydu.
The beach empties out after the day-trippers leave, and the water holds the last of the day’s warmth. Go in as the light drops and you’ll often have the whole bay to yourself — sand and pebbles underfoot, the river pool calmer than the open sea if you want an easier entry, and a decent chance of a seal watching you from a distance. Bring a torch for the walk back up; there’s no lighting between the beach and the boathouse.
