YHA Boswinger a rural, coastal hostel nr St Austell
This iconic hostel, is tucked away from the crowds in an idyllic rural location on the Cornish coast. You'll find numerous coastal paths, secluded coves and leafy lanes just moments from the door. Walkers, cyclists, kayakers and families will delight in the endless opportunities for adventures. While those seeking tranquility and relaxation will find the perfect escape from the stresses of daily life. Ever popular with groups it lends itself to training weeks, retreats and activity breaks.
The hostel sleeps 40 across 10 rooms (2, 4, or 6 beds). Cooked breakfast can be booked on arrival or there's a well equipped kitchen for preparing your own meals. Catered packages are available for groups/sole use. Other facilities include a large dining room with french windows opening onto the patio and a cosy communal lounge. Outside there are plenty of picnic tables, a BBQ/fire pit area and parking for 12 cars or four minibuses or a 40 seat coach. On clear nights you can sit back and enjoy amazing views of the night sky as there is no light pollution in this hidden corner of Cornwall.
Boswinger Hostel is just off the South West Coastal Path and the Cornish Way cycle routes. The historic fishing village of Mevagissey is close by and it's just 10-minute minute walk to the secluded Hemmick Beach. For those wanting to see some of Cornwall's renowned gardens, the Eden Project, Caerhays Castle & Gardens and The Lost Gardens of Heligan are all within easy reach. As the closest YHA hostel to Eden and Heligan, we are ideally situated for schools on residential trips that include the outstanding education programmes they offer.
Book by the room for dates up to a month in advance, or book sole use of the whole place anytime except August.
August is reserved for room bookings only and these can be booked anytime.

From the A390 (St Austell) take the B3273 towards Mevagissey. After 5 miles turn right at the top of the hill and follow the signs for Gorran. After 4 miles, fork right to Boswinger (follow the brown tourist signs). The hostel is situated in Boswinger hamlet just below the Seaview campsite. Avoid driving through Mevagissey in summer as the road through the village is very narrow and steep and can easily get blocked.Public Transport :
By train: The nearest station is in St Austell (10.5 miles). By bus: From St Austell, the Transport for Cornwall 23 Bus runs a couple of times a day to Gorran Churchtown, then walk 1.25 miles to the hostel. Or the 29 Bus to Mevagissey every hour (w/days only). New: Tiny House at YHA Boswinger
January 16th 2026
Our new Tiny House at YHA Boswinger will soon be available to book on the YHA website. This is a separate building in the grounds of the main hostel and contains two beds, a kitchenette and its own bathroom. Access is via a private gravel courtyard with views across the valley. It offers a quiet rural refuge in our lovely corner of mid Cornwall.
