Widly known at Hartland and listed with the YHA as Elmscott Bunkhouse, this hostel was opened by the YHA in 1948

Converted from an isolated country school building, which the YHA bought from Devon Educational Authorities, Elmscot was run by the YHA for 59 years until 2007, when it was sold into private hands. Now run as an independent hostel affiliated to the YHA, iit is still part of the YHA network and joined the Independent Hostel network in 2009.
