Last year Simon and cocker spaniel Barney From Kirk Yetholm Hostel completed the Southern Upland Way

Southern upland way near Cleikum Mill lodge

Cleikum Mill, 1 mile off the Southern Upland Way, is an ideal overnight stopping point for others undertaking this adventure.

The Southern Upland Way is 214 miles long and runs across Southern Scotland’s widest reach, from Portpatrick on the south west coast to Cockburnspath on the east coast.  It crosses empty and varied walking country, in some stretches a  real challenge for the experienced walker and in others suitable for the less ambitious.

Barney the 14 year old cocker spaniel from Kirk Yetholm Hostel has finally finished the Southern Upland Way after years if walking the way stage by stage. Including 9 months getting back to health in  December 2015 after a leg injury.

Back on home territory now Simon and Barney are enjoying gentle walks around the lovely village of Kirk Yetholm in the Scottish Borders.  Why not make a stay there yourself.

Or if you would rather have a go at the Southern Upland way yourself don’t forget there is ideal walkers accommodation at Cleikum Mill Lodge, just a mile from the way.
