Katie Doherty & The Navigators – Live Music – Thursday 2 June 2022

We are really pleased to welcome back Katie and the Navigators for another gig at Deepdale. You may have seen their beautiful session in St Mary’s Church at Deepdale Festival 2021.

This concert is part of their national tour, publicising their new album – FLOW

Having had a preview listen of the album, Chris was blown away. It is a wonderful collection of songs, rooted in traditional folk music, infused with pop sensibilities. Deeply personal lyrics, strong and powerful vocals, coupled with memorable melodies woven together by the blend of fiddle, accordion and piano create a stunning impression on the senses. We can’t recommend it highly enough!

“The band is unafraid to shine light on the dark as they delve into a deeper concept of song writing and do well to make it exciting and profound. ’And Then’ is poetic, original and brings a traditional Folk style into the 21st Century” – Marverick Magazine

“Hers is an ascent worth following … and then some.” – Folk Radio

Katie Doherty formed the Navigators in 2018. Their power and dynamic is often described as much bigger than its component parts. Katie’s songs hang on the precipice of the current state of the world. There is enormous heart filled hope but there is much riding on where we go from here. The songs paint sweeping pictures and intricate portraits of NHS Workers, Musicians, Teachers, Artists, Protesters and Parents. They are rooted in a craggy North East landscape looking outwards across the sea, with a telescopic lens pointing firmly up, out and forward to the best future possible. Listen for echos of Regina Spektor, Nancy Kerr, Guy Garvey and Anais Mitchell all of whose influence can be found within the sound of FLOW. The music exudes heart, warmth and melody which leaves you feeling up-lifted and welcomed.

Their new album ‘FLOW’ produced by Mattie Foulds (Karine Polwart, Rachel Newton, Adam Holmes and The Embers) is due for release Summer 2022.Their 2019 album ‘And Then’ led them to live sessions on BBC Radio 2’s Mark Radcliffe Show and BBC Radio 3 In-Tune. They toured nationally taking in Sage Gateshead, Cambridge Folk Festival, Manchester Folk Festival and Cheltenham Festival to name a few.

This early Summer concert will take place in the Brick Barn, with a bar. Please bring snacks, but not drink as our bar will be serving beers, ciders, wines and soft drinks. There is some seating available, first come first served, so feel free to bring your own too.
