Introduction to Green Woodworking – Spindle Course – Sunday 29th March

The ever-patient and encouraging Richard Rood teaches this one-day course, covering the basic skills of green woodworking with a spindle.

Rural crafter Richard Rood runs our green woodworking courses at Deepdale Farm. You may have seen Richard in a Pop Up Shop at Dalegate Market, or demonstrating at our Open Farm Sunday events.

The ever-patient and encouraging Richard will teach you to work with green wood, enabling you to create beautiful items for your home. We now offer two different, full day, introductory courses. Our original introduction to green woodworking course uses a spindle, while our brand new course for 2026 is bowl turning using hook tools, both on a pole lathe. As an extension to the spindle course, we offer a two-day “stool making for beginners” course. Richard is also developing a ‘make your own shave horse’ course, so if you are interested in making this or other items, please get in touch and we will see what we can arrange.
