Scammonden Activity Centre, near Huddersfield, a listed building dating from at least 1693, is open to the public on Thursday 17th September 2026.
Come along to enjoy a tour of the Centre and learn how a derelict Grade II listed house and barn were converted into a Scout residential centre.
New Hey Farm dates from at least 1693. It was a working farm until Scammonden Reservoir was built in the late 1960’s when it was compulsorily purchased. It was unused and becoming gradually derelict until 1985. Huddersfield South West District Scouts then acquired a long lease on the property from Yorkshire Water Authority and began a major building and restoration project.
The result was Scammonden Activity Centre, a residential hostel which is used by youth, charity and educational groups.
