Around sundown on 30th April 2017, The Beltane Fire Festival will take place on Calton Hill in Edinburgh. A procession from the National Monument (the Acropolis) is driven by the beat of drums, at the procession head is the May Queen and the Green Man. There is a performance and the birth of summer is signified by lighting a huge bonfire. Red and white dancers dance then mix with the audience as everyone drifts off into the night, some as late at 1.30am.
