Our usual content includes information on the natural landscape, the scenery and vista views guests can experience when they visit. Today we’re highlighting the man-made talents and inspiring creations on our doorstep at Wild Valley Huts. Here are two breathtaking places definitely worth a visit for both adults and children!
1 – The British Iron Works & Sculpture park
The sculpture park is the UK’s largest metal safari park with over 100 sculptures on display. It’s a fabulous collection to explore, with exhibits all throughout the grounds. There’s a fabulous extinction trail, and an array of metal safari animals. The incredible spoon gorilla is here which has been made from 40,000 spoons and designed in collaboration with Uri Gellar as well as Marvel characters and superheros. Each one is completely breathtaking!
Knife Angel: The Knife Angel was created in 2018, a 4-year collaboration. Intricately sculptured using over 100,000 seized knives it stands at a staggering height of 27ft. In the making of the knife angel, they knew they needed 100,000 knives but through the knife amnesty to remove knives off the streets, 250,000 knives were handed in and recycled. This is a breath taking piece.
2 – Pontcysyllte Aqueduct – The Stream in the Sky
UNESCO has described this world heritage site as ‘a masterpiece of creative genius’. Llangollen Canal is an outstanding piece of industrial and engineering heritage comprising of embankments, tunnels, viaducts and the stunning centrepiece Pontcysyllte Aqueduct itself!
Opened in 1805, the Aqueduct, known as the stream in the sky, spans the River Dee at 126 feet in height and over 1000 feet in length, making it the longest & highest aqueduct in the UK. The impressive structure, created with a cast iron trough sitting above 18 stone piers & arches is impressive to this day, making it a popular visitor attraction.
You can choose to walk across on the canal towpath, or even canoe, kayak and paddleboard across to test your nerves. Or you can look out; relax and enjoy the stunning views of the valley on a narrow boat trip.
