A Hostel with History

Matt and his family have been running Earby Hostel in Lancashire for the past 5 years and their dedication to providing a personalised and outstanding experience for families, outdoor enthusiasts and university groups is reflected in their 5* reviews.

Earby Hostel has been a special place for people to meet and experience the great outdoors for a long time. It first became a hostel in 1958. Matt and his family took over in 2019. Earby Hostel is a welcoming and affordable place for all.

But before it was a hostel, it was a haven for socialists since the 1920s. This is thanks to Katharine Glasier who was a socialist, politician, journalist and all round badass. After her death, she insisted the house was turned into a hostel so that socialists, working class folk and travellers could continue to seek refuge in her wonderful cottage and surrounding area.

To this day, we welcome so many different visitors from a variety of backgrounds and we are keen to continue Katharine’s message of being an incredibly welcoming place. We especially love seeing young people get inspired and feel connected to nature.

We are approaching the start of the academic year and we would love to invite more university societies to stay with us. If you are part of a society that needs a basecamp for a trip, or know someone that would be interested. Please send them our way!
