Green Tourism Gold accommodation built with Sustainable Design from Shipping Containers
February 19th 2026
Sustainability is about living comfortably while using less energy. Here at Ty Cwtch Boathouse we focused on low embodied energy materials — reusing and recycling where possible, including shipping containers and locally sourced larch — alongside 100% renewable electricity, an air source heat pump, high insulation, and low draught levels. We also minimise construction waste. Simple principles: what do we need, will it work well, and will it look good? This approach earned an Innovation Award from Visit Wales and Cardiff Project of the Year recognition.

Family Holidays & Multi-Generational Stays at Ty Cwch: Space for the Whole Family
Getting multiple generations together gets harder as families grow. Ty Cwch makes it easier. Three sleeping pods with four bunks each give everyone their own space. Communal areas large enough that you can spread out together without feeling cramped.
The beach is 30 seconds away – safe swimming, paddling in the river pool, exploring rock pools, watching seals. Older kids can kayak and paddleboard. Teenagers have space to hang out. Adults can relax knowing everyone’s entertained and safe.
The kitchen handles big family cooking. Dining area fits everyone for proper meals together. Lounge space has games, books and sofas. Deck and garden with firepit extend your living space outdoors. Four showers mean no bathroom battles.
This Award-winning accommodation works because it’s flexible. When weather’s good, the whole place opens up under sail canopies. When it’s not, you’re warm inside with heating throughout. Walking from the door onto the Welsh Coast Path. Wildlife watching. Beach days. Simple pleasures that suit all ages.
Located in a quiet valley on the Cardigan Heritage Coast. Cwmtydu has a small local community and not much else – which is exactly the point. Get away from screens and schedules. Be together properly.
Book individual cabins or take the whole boathouse for family reunions.
