News & Offers from The Roost Merthyr Tydfil

Last-minute summer stays – brilliant for hikers, bikers, families, groups – and dogs, too!

July 25th 2025

Looking for a spontaneous summer escape? The Roost Merthyr Tydfil is the perfect last-minute getaway for adventurers, nature lovers, and anyone needing a breath of fresh air. Nestled on the edge of the stunning Brecon Beacons National Park, and just minutes from BikePark Wales, The Roost offers a peaceful base with easy access to some of South Wales’ best hiking, biking, and outdoor experiences. Whether you’re climbing Pen y Fan, tackling mountain trails, or just unwinding under the trees, you’ll find everything you need for a refreshing break.

And, there is still some cabin availability for July/August but it’s filling up fast.

The Roost’s award-winning eco-glamping site is designed with comfort and simplicity in mind — think cosy cabins, leafy surroundings, and great facilities and spaces to relax. It’s perfect for solo travellers, couples, groups, families, and even your dog. With a few cabins still available over the summer, now’s the ideal time to book that spontaneous trip and make the most of the sunshine while it lasts.

Kids love the Roost. They can run around, play with the games from the guest store and maybe treat themselves to pick & mix or an ice lolly from the honesty shop! They’ll also love the bunk beds.

Dogs are also well catered for at the Roost. The site is gated so they can freely explore, and there are dog treats and poop bags in the store.

For bikers, there’s a bike wash, maintenance stand with tools and in-cabin bike storage.

For hikers, there’s a drying room, big comfy beds and lovely hot showers (obviously not just for hikers) for recovering from having hit the trails.

The Roost is self-catering and the kitchens are well-equipped with all the essentials plus there are BBQs and a pizza oven. If you don’t fancy cooking, the village has takeaways and shops open late. After dinner, chill around the fire pit and toast some marshmallows.

And, there’s so much to do locally. The Bannau Brycheiniog/Brecon Beacons National Park is packed full of hiking and biking trails for all abilities with waterfalls, woods, gorges and epic views. The Taff Trail (cycle route 8) runs past the Roost and connects to Cardiff, Brecon and even as far as Anglesey (Lôn Las Cymru). For mountain biking, BikePark Wales is just 10min by car and 15min by bike. There are plenty of other MTB options too – Mountain View (30min), CwmCarn (35min) and Dirt Farm (35min). Zip World Tower is also a short drive away

No car? No problem. The village train station, Troedyrhiw, connects to Cardiff and Merthyr Tydfil. You could bring your bike on the train.

So, if you’re looking for an affordable escape that’s a little bit different, check out the Roost!
