Somewhere to stay for people with better things to spend their money on! The Bunker offers clean and simple bunk style rooms, each with its own shower and sink. It has a spacious dining room and kitchen, where we can offer a hearty English breakfast to set you up for the day, or an excellent place for your self-catered group to relax and enjoy. The Bunker is the perfect place to stay for anyone who wants to take part in any of the fantastic outdoor activities Portland has to offer. Just a few minutes drive away, the harbour offers a huge number of water sports to try, or there are fantastic outdoor climbing spots if you prefer staying dry. Chesil beach is literally across the road and leads to some excellent coastal walks around the island. Importantly, it is only a short stroll from the front door to one of our local pubs for some great food and drink whilst watching the sunset.
The Bunker is on the South West Coastal Path, with Chesil Beach on its doorstep and world class sport climbing, diving sites and water-sports a short distance away. Sleeping up to 18 in 6 private bunk rooms, each with a shower and sink, The Bunker offers affordable accommodation for groups and individuals. It has a large communal area, kitchen with tea and coffee and free WiFi. Breakfast and packed lunches available when booked in advance.

    In the last 5 minutes of your journey to The Bunker you will approach Portland Beach Road, with Chesil Beach to your right and the sea to your left. Once you have passed Lidl and then the Garage/Budgens on your left, you will get to another roundabout. Be sure to take it slow round the roundabout and you will see The Bunker on the left. There is plenty of free parking nearby.
  • Public Transport :

    The nearest train station is Weymouth, 5.5 miles away. From there you can take a 5 minute walk to the seafront where you can jump on the number 1 bus to Portland which will drop you off right outside The Bunker.

Dorchester Walking Festival takes place on 2-10 May 2026

February 1st 2026

Taking place during National Walking Month, the Dorchester Walking Festival promises a memorable week of guided walks suitable for all abilities. The walks will reveal Dorset’s stunning landscapes, hidden corners, and rich heritage, offering everything from gentle strolls to more challenging routes. The Bunker is located on the South West Coast Path, just 10 miles from Dorchester, with Chesil Beach on its doorstep, and offers affordable, walker-friendly accommodation with private rooms and options for groups.
