OverviewSouth Shore Lodge on the south coast of Brownsea Island in Poole Harbour is a Victorian lodge, available to hire year-round for youth, community, special interest, corporate and school groups, with some availability for family hire. With its own garden, beach access, shower block and views of the Purbeck Hills, the lodge sleeps 24 in 5 rooms and is well equipped for self-catering. You will need to provide your own sleeping bags and pillows. Extra blankets are provided in each room. Seating for 24 people is provided in the form of folding tables and chairs. These are stored flat and can be used as and when required across the two communal rooms for flexibility. On the lower level there is a kitchen, suited to group catering, a small bunk room for 2, a bunk room for 4 and a room overlooking the sea – the Sea Room – where most people choose to eat and indeed, have a brew with a view over to the Purbeck Hills. There is another multi-use communal room, overlooking the front garden. The remaining bedrooms are upstairs. Outside is a wild garden with patio, picnic benches and BBQ. There is a natural play area on the island which is a pleasant walk from the Lodge and plenty of places to explore the island's heritage and encounter the flora and wildlife that call Brownsea home. Access to Brownsea Island is by foot on a ferry from Sandbanks and from Poole in the summer. Cars are not permitted on the island and there are pay and display car parks at Sandbanks and Poole. Once on the Island your bags can be transported to the bunkhouse for you. Some groups prefer to take on the island adventure for themselves and walk their own luggage to the Lodge (20 mins walk). No stag or hen groups. Photos ©National Trust Images/John Miller, ©National Trust Images/Arnhel de Serra/Mike Henton
