Slapton Ley Field Centre is a stone’s throw from the unspoilt and picturesque coastline of South Devon. Located on the Start Bay coast, it is surrounded by the 210-hectare Slapton Ley National Nature Reserve that includes the 4km long Slapton Sands beach and the largest freshwater lake in the Southwest. The centre is located within the South Devon National Landscape close to Dartmoor National Park and is within easy reach of the M5 and mainline train station at Totnes. Slapton Ley makes a great base for exploring a wide range of landscapes across the region.
Available year-round, the centre offers both catered and self-catered accommodation options. Guests can choose from bed and breakfast, full-board packages, or exclusive hire of the entire property on either a catered or self-catered basis. Ingredients are sourced locally wherever possible, and most dietary requirements can be catered for. Self-catering is only offered to groups that hire out the whole centre.
A popular choice for groups seeking adventure, team building, relaxation, and a connection with nature. Our qualified tutors and trusted activity partners can provide engaging educational experiences for both adults and children (subject to availability), these are chargeable and must be booked in advance. Please enquire for further details. It is ideally suited to educational groups, sports training weekends, corporate away days, youth, faith and family groups with the option of centre-led activities available. Once you arrive, it feels like a true escape into nature.
The spacious, well-appointed centre has been awarded 4* by Visit England and can accommodate up to 178 guests across 4 blocks. There are single, twin and family rooms and small dormitories, mostly en suite. There are 2 twin ground floor bedrooms in Chell (main house). Both with walk-in showers and emergency pull-cords. Facilities include a large dining room, commercial kitchen, several comfortable sitting rooms, drying room, BBQ area and pizza oven, a games rooms and a number of classrooms. There is a village hall (directly next door to the centre) which can be used as a conference space accommodating around 100 people and is chargeable (by separate arrangement). In addition to the main centre, there is also a separate self-catering property nearby (Start Bay Centre) which can be hired separately and sleeps 41 guests.
The centre is located within beautiful, landscaped grounds with seating areas, shelters, kitchen garden and wildlife areas. Slapton village with its community shop and 2 pubs is just a short walk away and the Southwest Coast Path and NCN 28 run close by. Slapton Ley Field Centre provides the perfect base for exploring the area's spectacular natural surroundings with walking paths directly from the centre. To help everyone enjoy this spectacular location, a range of outdoor clothing is available to hire.

By car - 20 miles (30km) from A38. Take A384 slip road to A381 Buckfastleigh/Totnes/Dartmouth/Kingsbridge. Turn left onto A381. Continue onto the A381 towards Harberton. Continue, then turn left onto A3122 towards Dartmouth. Pass Dartmouth Golf Club on the left then turn right to follow signs for Slapton. The Field Studies Centre is located on the right-hand side about one kilometre from the main road. On foot/bicycle - For the more energetic, the Nature Reserve is on the route of a national trail, the Southwest Coastal Path and near Route 28 of the Sustrans National Cycle Network.Public Transport :
By train -The nearest train station is Totes (13 miles). Totnes Station is on the Southwest Main Line and is under 3 hours direct from Birmingham New Street and London Paddington. You could then use a taxi service, which takes around 30-40 minutes, to reach the Slapton Ley Field Centre. By bus - The no. 3 bus Service from Plymouth or Dartmouth to Slapton via Kingsbridge is operated by Stagecoach. The bus stops on Slapton Line and at the village bus stop outside the Centre.Walks :
