…inside it is a revelation…
Plas Curig Hostel, near Betws-Y-Coed in North Wales might be about the swishest hostel you’ve ever seen. In a previous life it was known as Capel Curig YHA – if you remember those days you’ll recall the stunning white slate-built house with a veranda. It still has those features, but inside is a revelation. The stylish black and white stone tiled kitchen might have seen service on a TV cookery show, although happily without the sewer tongue of Gordon Ramsey; the library and lounge are full of sink-in-able sofas and up-cycled timber furniture; all the bedrooms are impeccably presented for small, private groups. Check out the photo gallery and you’ll see what I’m talking about. No wonder its got 5 stars and the Guardian called it ‘UK’s poshest hostel’.
Obviously you’ll eventually venture out. The area around Betws-Y-Coed will be familiar to the mountainous adventurers amongst you. Right in the heart of stunning Snowdonia, with easy access to courses or self-lead activities inclusing walking, canoeing, mountain biking, caving, the list goes on. At the end of the day, bring your tired body and your muddy bike or boat back to teh hostel because, despite its ‘poshness’ it is not too proud to have a storage room fro your gear and drying room for your waterproofs.
