Modern, eco-friendly bunkhouse in Whithorn with private ensuite rooms
Tucked behind Whithorn’s historic Town Hall, this modern, eco-friendly bunkhouse combines contemporary comfort with sustainable design. Super-insulated and heated by air-source heat pumps, it offers a cosy and environmentally conscious base for your stay.
The bunkhouse sleeps up to eighteen guests across a variety of ensuite rooms — twin, four-bed, and six-bed family options. On the ground floor, there’s a fully accessible four-bed room with a wet room, ideal for those with mobility needs, and the upstairs rooms enjoy peaceful views across the surrounding fields.
Guests can enjoy free Wi-Fi, comfortable beds with storage, and a welcoming communal kitchen, fully equipped for everything from hearty breakfasts to relaxed evening meals — perfect for sharing stories from your day of exploring.
Bookings are per person, per night, and friendly staff are on hand to ensure a comfortable stay. To make self-catering easier, you can pre-order a welcome pack from one of the local shops, which will be ready and waiting for you on arrival.
Cyclists are well catered for, with secure bike racks, a cycle repair station, and e-bike charging points conveniently located by the side entrance.
Whithorn is a fascinating corner of South-West Scotland, rich in heritage and natural beauty. As the home of St Ninian, it was once a major medieval pilgrimage destination and remains the heart of the Whithorn Way — a 149-mile walking and cycling route following ancient paths to sites like St Ninian’s Cave. Older still are the Drumtroddan Standing Stones and the mysterious Torhouse Stone Circle, both echoing the area’s prehistoric past. Whithorn lies within the Galloway Dark Sky Park, making it a truly magical place to spend a clear night gazing at the stars.
The 7stanes mountain bike trails are nearby for those seeking adventure, while those preferring a gentler pace can enjoy scenic walks through Galloway Forest Park, the tranquil Galloway House Gardens, or along the coast at Rig Bay.
You can even try wild swimming in the nearby lochs and along the unspoiled coastline — a refreshing way to connect with nature.
The bunkhouse welcomes families, walkers, cyclists, youth groups, Duke of Edinburgh participants, and travellers visiting for work or leisure.
