But there’s more to it than that and you’ll discover that Monkton Wyld is a fascinating place. Building on its past as an ‘alternative’ school teaching land skills alongside traditional education, Monkton Wyld Court is a charity promoting ways of living sustainably and leading by example!
Quoting from their website:
“The efforts made so far include fitting solar panels to the roof, installing wood-fuelled boilers and stoves, collecting rainwater for flushing toilets and adding a reed-bed system for filtering sewage, building, maintaining and popularising compost toilets (our palatial ones have won prizes!), using food waste for compost, growing our own fruits and vegetables, running our own micro-dairy, farming the land organically, using scythes to manage the grassland, recycling and reusing as much as possible, bulk-buying from ethical suppliers and cooking and eating communally, car-sharing, and lots and lots of people power and hand tools!”
So, when you stay, there’s so much to learn and experience.
As well as having great dorm rates and B&B accommodation, Monkton Wyld Court is also available for private hire. The 14 rooms with 42 beds with the visitors’ and self-catering kitchen, function rooms and extensive gardens complete with fire-pit, meat kitchen and pizza oven, can be the setting for your gathering.
