OverviewThis Victorian-Gothic mansion is located in Dorset's Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with easy access to the Jurassic Coast at Lyme Regis, and the Wessex and Monarch's Way long distance footpaths. B&B is from £35 per bed and dorm style accommodation is available for £20. Guests can use the vegetarian self-catering kitchen to prepare their own meal or vegetarian meals can be pre-booked. It is also possible to camp in the grounds. Monkton Wyld Court is a charity promoting ways of living sustainably. Volunteers live communally and heat and cook using wood. Fresh water comes from wells and is UV treated; the volunteers use compost loos. Fruit and vegetables are grown in the organic garden; and three Jersey cows provide all the milk, yoghurt and cheese. Flush toilets and private rooms available for guests.

Directions:Off A35 between Bridport (East) and Axminster (West), about 4 miles north of Lyme Regis. Monkton Wyld is sign-posted from the A35; 1 mile up the lane you will see St Andrew's Church on left, driveway is just beyond it on right.
Public Transport:Train to Axminster. First Bus from station (direction Lyme Regis / Bridport) to Hunter's Lodge (10min) + 40 min walk along B-road and lanes.

Intrigued by all we had read about Monkton Wyld Court we made a tiny detour on our holiday to Lyme Regis to stay for a night in this Gothic mansion. What a privilege it felt to spend time in this simply furnished building with its ornate ecclesiastical architecture.Read More

Cast in a pink sunset glow, the mist around Monkton Wyld settles delicately on the rolling fields.
The volunteer staff live communally in a technology-free lifestyle, collecting vegetables from the garden, and milk from the three jersey cows. Staying here you truly feel part of a community, and contributing to the environmental cause.

In rural Dorset, Monlton Wyld Court is run by volunteers to promote sustainable living and holidays. Guest can stay in B&B rooms or dorms and there is a vegetarian self-catering kitchen, cosy lounges and amazing building and grounds to explore.
The Grade II listed Neo-Gothic Court was built in 1848 as a Rectory and latter became a pioneering school for cooperative living and learning. With easy access to the Jurassic Coast at Lyme Regis, and the Wessex and Monarch’s Way long distance footpaths its an ideal base for an alternative holiday.

Staying at Monkton Wyld Court is almost like a trip to the past, as it is an ancient building run by a local community who devote themselves to living a sustainable lifestyle with little modern technology.
This beautifully ancient feat of architecture is submerged within Dorset’s Area of Outstanding Natural beauty, which is apparent as soon and you draw open the curtains onto Monkton Wyld Court’s beautiful grounds filled with wildlife and the stunning natural landscape in the surroundings.
