Whether you’re visiting the heart of the Lake District alone or in a group, Lakes Hostel is your perfect base.Newly refurbished, there are 5 colourful, cosy and clean bedrooms that can cater for individuals, groups, couples and families. Some rooms have double beds and all have access to bathrooms with toilets and separate toilet facilities, no crossed legs in the Hallway here.
Each bed has its own reading light, USB port, privacy curtain and 5 star mattress. Bedding, towels included. Personnel lockers, Iron, Ironing Board and hairdryer available.

The Lakes Hostel was renovated in 2020 with a lot of love and attention to detail and it really shows, combining an old school welcoming feel with modern facilities and equipment. Based in centre of the village of Windemere with access to all the great things it has to offer.
With the hostel being just a one minute walk from the train and bus stations it makes coming and going very straightforward as well as exp0loring the wider Lake District. But there is so much to do right on the doorstep of the hostel including the famous Wainwright walks, the first of which (Orrest Head) is well signposted and starts only a minute outside the front door. The famous lake boasts a wide selection of enticing activities like paddle boarding, the hostel works closely with a local company that will make hiring and using the boards incredibly simple. If paddle boards aren’t quite your thing why not explore the lake on a boat, you can climb aboard lake cruise tours or hire your own if your feeling brave. If being on top of England’s largest lake isn’t enough for you why not try open water swimming, Lakes Hostel has partnered with south lakes swimming who make swimming in the lakes fun, accessible and safe.
The villages of Windamere and Bowness offer a huge amount to do with a large selection of independent shops and cafes including the 2019 AA Pub of the Year ,Craft Baa. Lake district legend Beatrix Potter penned Peter Rabbit on the other side of the lake at her iconic house ‘Hill Top’ additionally The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction in the heart of Bowness. Lakes Hostel can accommodate up to 16 adults and have a fully equipped kitchen and a cosy lounge. The hostel is situated in central Windermere village, only a stones throw from Windemere lake. There is loads to explore in this area of the Lake District.
Explore nearby village of Bowness-on-Windemere; it has a busy pier which is the starting point for many lake cruises and ferries to Hawkshead. There’s also lots art galleries, antique stores and cafés – perfect for retail therapy in the run up to Christmas.
Visit Hill Top; Beatrix Potter’s 17th-century farmhouse. She bought the farmhouse in 1905 as a writing retreat and quickly fell in love with the area. Even visitors originally uninterested in Beatrix Potter will leave enchanted by her house and life. The house and gardens have been maintained the very same as they were in 1905. The house is bursting with Beatrice Potter artefacts and her gardens are as magical as they were over 100 years ago.
