A warm Northumbrian welcome awaits you at the Joiners Shop Bunkhouse. Nestled in the peaceful wooded hamlet of Preston between the villages of Ellingham and Chathill, it is just 5 miles from the stunning Northumberland AONB coastline and 7 miles from the historic market town of Alnwick.

The charming 19th century building offers groups of up to 18 the haven they need to refuel, relax, entertain or just chill out. Inside, you'll find there's room for plenty - sleeping 18 with one double bed and 16 pine bunk beds, arranged in sections of threes and fives. This bunkhouse also offers hot showers, a fully equipped kitchen and spacious dining area, a living area with comfy couches, TV and multi-fuel stove, and a fully fenced garden with firepit and oil drum BBQ.

Your host, Kirsten, can recommend ample activities in the local area including the best walks, restaurants and pubs. Just 300m from NCN Route 1 (or the Coasts and Castles route) it's a favourite base for cyclists.     The bunkhouse is just off the A1, 7 miles north of Alnwick. Follow the brown signs for Preston Tower. If you’re travelling from the south, you’ll be turning right. From the north, you’ll be turning left. It’s about 1.5 miles down the road, and to your left. There's a sign at the front and you’ll be glad to know there’s ample parking in front of the building.
  • Public Transport :

    Train: There’s a local station at Chathill with two daily runs to Newcastle. More frequent trains are at Almouth, which is about 12 miles away. Bus: The area’s main bus station is situated in Alnwick. A local service is provided, including ‘The Coastal Clipper’ for surrounding villages. Bike: Cyclists love it here. The bunkhouse is situated on the National Cycle Network, on National Route 1.

Come to stay at The Joiners Shop in wonderful Northumberland. Just 5 miles away from an area of outstanding natural beauty and just a short drive from Alnwick castle. We’re dog friendly and suitable for 2 household groups of up to 18 people. Hiking enthusiasts will be very pleased with the great selection of walks in the surrounding area, the aforementioned AONB offers some of the most wonderful coast walking in the whole of the UK.
