Hopetoun Bothy offers warm, comfortable accommodation for walkers, cyclists, birdwatchers, and adventurers tackling the Southern Upland Way.

This traditional bunkhouse—fully modernised for today’s travellers—sleeps up to 8 guests in sturdy, hand-crafted bunk beds. There are four rooms, each sleeping two people, with private ensuite shower and toilet. Bring your own sleeping bag, or hire bedding and towels to save carrying them.

The bothy has shared kitchen facilities, keeping the bothy authentic, social, and affordable.

Hearty breakfasts and fine dining evening meals are available in the Hopetoun Arms restaurant right next door, and can be pre-booked with your bunk. An evening in the bar makes it effortless to recharge after a day in the Lowther Hills. If you didn’t order food when you booked, you can simply ask at the Hopetoun Arms for the “Bothy Specials.”

The bothy is conveniently located beside the Leadhills General Store, handy for essentials or picnic supplies.

Situated right on the SWC300 and Southern Upland Way routes—and close to Wanlockhead—Leadhills is the perfect base for adventure. Discover the scenic Mennock Pass and its wild goats, delve underground at the Museum of Lead Mining, or take a nostalgic ride on the Leadhills & Wanlockhead Railway. Or perhaps brave the Crawick Multiverse!
