Formerly YHA Holmbury St Mary and now independently owned, Hurtwood Hostel nestles in the Surrey Hills National Landscape close to the small village of Holmbury St Mary, recognised as one of the prettiest villages in Surrey. With 2,000 acres of open access countryside and woodland on the doorstep it is very hard to imagine that this rural retreat is just 30 miles from central London. Holmbury Hill, which offers panoramic views of the North and South Downs is close by, and there are fantastic walking, cycling and mountain biking right at your doorstep.

Hurtwood Hostel offers great value, comfortable, self catering accommodation to individuals, couples, families and groups of up 49 people. Facilities include a fully equipped self catering kitchen, bright & comfortable communal areas, an on site cafe and a refurbished secure bike store with new bike shop. Outside the large private grounds are perfect for playing and relaxing. A fantastic woodland campsite is open from March and camper van hook-ups are coming soon.

Calling all charites, youth groups and schools – FREE overnight and outward bound experiences!

December 10th 2024

We are delighted to announce that we have partnered with Generation Green, a government initiative to give disdvantaged youngsters the opportunity to experience the countryside. If you know some young people (between 7 and 18) who’d enjoy campfire cooking and an overnight stay in the Surrey Hills, do get in touch. We can accommodate most group sizes for dates from right now up until March 2025. FREE to all qualifying youth groups (qualification is fairly flexible). First come first served with limited spaces available, so get in touch soon…

Generation Green  – Connect your Group with Nature for Free!

Hurtwood Hostel in the heart of the Surrey Hills has a number of residential experiences available to disadvantaged groups to benefit from.

What’s on Offer – The overnight experience will consist of the following:

– Arrive late afternoon for campfire cooking and meal experience

– Overnight stay in the hostel’s comfortable accommodation. Rooms accommodating 4 guests within bunks are available.

– Hearty breakfast

– The group will then head out on a half days activity in the countryside followed by a packed lunch returning home thereafter

Activity – a choice of programmes will be available such as woodland arts, bushcraft, foraging, mindfulness walks, mountain biking, farm visits and creative writing to name just a few

Who Can Sign Up – Young people between 7-18 years old. (Groups need to be supervised by their own staff)

Group Sizes – groups of between preferably 12 and 26 can attend at any one time. All groups must be supervised.

TimeLine – This offer is limited. Funding is only available until March 2025 with spaces available on a first come first served basis. Spaces are available immediately.

Remember this is time limited so do enquire early to take advantage.
