Get to know the face behind the hostel

Matt the warden at Earby Hostel

My name is Matt and I’ve been running Earby Holiday Home and Adjoining Hostel since 2019 (though the building has been run as a hostel since 1958!)

I am Yorkshire born and bred but moved to Lancashire/Yorkshire border 8 years ago with my with my family; my wife Emma and two girls Maisie (who runs as a Yorkshire Country Athlete) and Millie. My passion in life is the great outdoors and helping children fall in love with nature too. This manifests itself in a few ways for me: I love cycling, fell running and I am a qualified Forest School instructor.

Since 2019, we have fully refurbished the hostel and holiday home and welcomed thousands of visitors through our doors; families, hiking and cycling groups, university societies and solo travellers. I love helping guests get the most out of their stay; recommending hiking and cycling routes, local attractions and making home cooked breakfasts and dinners.

I’m looking forward to what 2025 will bring for myself and the business – adventure, exercise and community projects. At the hostel we have plenty of exciting events in the pipeline; Montaine Spine races, Quid Games (orienteering in the dark), Triathlon Society coming to stay as well as a group of Morris Dancers! I hope to see your lovely faces at the hostel too.
