Heart-thumping hikes through epic landscapes or serene strolls down winding pathways; whichever type of walker you are, the Berwyn mountains will have a walk for you.
Mynydd Tawr in the Berwyn Range:
Graeme & I have lived in the beautiful Maengwynedd Valley for nearly 3 years. We have been renovating our cosy bunkhouse and shepherd huts, (Wild Valley Bunkhouse & Huts) and we’re beginning to have more time to explore the area; especially the Berwyn Mountains which are right on our doorstep. We can see Mynydd Tawr from the kitchen window!
When my parents were visiting one week, Dad thought we should go and see what the view is like from the top.
Following in my dad’s footsteps, I have a love for being outdoors. Whether it be walking, hill running, camping or climbing; those were his passions and they are mine too. He didn’t have to ask twice!
Mynydd Tarw from Wild Valley Bunkhouse & Huts:
Turning left out of Wild Valley Bunkhouse & Huts drive, we walked along the lane for about 1.1km to Tyn-y-Fridd. There is a farm on the left and phone box on the right. At this junction we began to walk up the lane passing the farm. Still ascending we walked through a second farm and about 200m after the farm, we found two gates on the left. We took the right gate & walked to the top right corner of the field to another gate. Once through this gate, we headed to the right and kept the deforested tree line on our right. We continued uphill, keeping the fence on our right-hand side as we ascended to Mynydd Tarw, with a few breaks to catch our breath, have a drink and admire the views.
During our walk we had some lovely views down into the valley of Maengwynedd and it felt like we had the Berwyn’s to ourselves as we didn’t see anyone, apart from the sheep. Our walk was a lovely quiet escape for a couple of hours.
