Whatever outdoor activities you or your family like to do, you can do most of them from Wooler. On land or in the sea, with instruction or by yourself. If you’re looking for an adventurous holiday at prices that won’t break the bank. Look no further than Wooler.
One of the biggest attractions of staying at Wooler Youth Hostel and Shepherds’ Huts is our location in North Northumberland. We are within walking distance of Northumberland National Park and the Cheviot Hills, and yet still only a short drive to miles of unspoilt coastline and historic castles.
So, if your ideal Northumberland adventure is hill and moorland walks or taking your shoes off for a walk along the miles of beach, then we are situated in a perfect location for you.
For cyclist, both of the road variety and MBR, we have miles of good options, including the famous Sandstone Way.
We are close to two or three national walking trails, the closest of these being St Cuthberts Way. Bridging the national border between Scotland and England, this inspiring 100km (62.5 miles) cross-border route links Melrose in the Scottish Borders, where St. Cuthbert started his religious life in 650AD, with Holy Island off the Northumberland Coast.
Another really popular Northumberland adventure is a coastal family excursion boat trip to the Farne Islands. The Farne Islands are possibly the most exciting seabird colony in England with unrivalled views of 23 species, including around 43,000 pairs of puffin. It’s also home to a one of the top grey seal pupping sites in England, with more than 2,000 pups born every autumn.
We can help you with many of these activities and trips. There are so many other things to choose from as well as formal activities that we can book for you, or you can book direct through our website.
For example:
GUIDED WALKS & NAVIGATION TRAINING
Starting with our very own hostel manager, Karl, who also runs Reiver Guiding. He organises guided walks both locally and nationally and is a registered provider for the National Navigation Award Scheme (NNAS) as well as being a fully qualified and insured Mountain Leader (S).
