north devon coast showing cliff paths and boats in a distant harbour

The North Devon Coast National Landscape includes Woolacombe, the Hartland Peninsula and the dunes of Braunton Burrows, with their rare marsh orchids, designated as a UNESCO Biosphere.

In the North East the tall cliffs are a continuation of Exmoor’s coastline.  Turn the corner beyond Ilfracombe and this relaxes into the broad sweep of Barnstaple Bay and the surfing beaches of Woolacombe, Croyde, Saunton and Westward Ho!  As the coastline turns once more at Hartland Point there are razor-like reefs and spectacular coastal waterfalls. This AONB is also home to the UKs first World Surfing Reserve.
