YHA Hawes End Bunkhouse is a traditional stone cottage on the western shores of Derwentwater, set within the grounds of the larger Hawse End Outdoor Centre. Operated by the YHA for many years, it was featured in the organisation’s 2005 Escape to the Country leaflet. In its final years as part of the YHA network, the bunkhouse was devoted exclusively to group hire. It is now run by Cumbria Outdoors and can be booked through the Independent Hostels website.
Hawse End Centre in the Lake District sits at the head of the magnificent Borrowdale Valley on the shores of Derwentwater. Guests enjoy easy access to Keswick and the mountains beyond via launch or lakeside walk.
The house is a large, comfortable, country mansion ideal for large groups, while the cottage is more suited to smaller groups or large families.
