Location, Location, Location, they always say.
Property developers, as well as Channel 4 producers, use the phrase to remind us what’s important in a property. MacBackpackers (owners of an award winning tour company and 3 hostels in Edinburgh) must have been thinking this when they acquired and renovated Lochside Hostel.
Why is that? The Loch which Lochside is beside is, of course, internationally famous cryptozoolology and marketing hotspot Loch Ness.
On all sides you have unbelievable panoramic views up and down the Loch. The hostel allows you to tumble straight into the Loch for a refreshing swim. Alternatively, you can watch out for really wild life: pine martens, gold eagles, red deer – to say nothing of the real wild life prize of the area…
The Great Glen walking route passes the front door and the End to End cycle route is nearby, close by the Monadhliath mountains are a little known treasure trove for walkers.
Altogether a great base for exploring this patch of highlands or taking in the tourist honeypot around nearby Drumnadrochit and Urquart Castle.
