Carnforth rail station is the real-life setting for one of the most popular romantic British films of all time, Brief Encounter. The fictional Milford Junction was created at Carnforth rail station. The location was chosen as far enough away from major cities to avoid blackout rules, shooting taking place in early 1945 before the end of the war. Today, fans can visit the platform and refreshment room as well as the heritage centre which includes memorabilia and screenings of the film.
A 6.5 mile circular walk  between Carnforth Station and the village of Bolton-le-Sands on the Lancashire Coast  makes an excellent addition to your trip. The walking route provided by Ifootpath, follows the Lancashire Coast Way and then returns along the towpath of the Lancaster Canal.
