Sleeperzzz – A railway carriage hostel with a pub down the road!

…pretty charming and far from the hustle and bustle…

There are many great reasons to visit the Highlands of Scotland. I’ll name the achievement and drama of bagging Munroes; the seclusion and peace of mind of exploring a comparatively empty corner of our islands; the proud and lively music and arts; the welcoming hospitality of comforting food and drink – you can probably add your own reasons  to the list.

But here’s one you might not have considered: a chance to sleep in a railway carriage from the golden age of rail! With a bit of thought I could have worked out that Sleeperzzz was the name of a converted sleeping carriage ‘bunkhouse’. If I’m being honest there is also a converted ‘showman’s carriage’ which is a trailer from a  vintage travelling circus as well. They are all renovated to a fine standard with two beds per room, and a kitchen, dining room, sitting room, showers and toilets. The carriages are heated and non-smoking.

Four actual real-life trains per day run in each direction serve this small crofting community which has a shop, post office and pub with restaurant. You can use those to explore or choose to take up the free offer of bikes to borrow.

It all sounds pretty charming and far from the hustle and bustle doesn’t it?
