… great to have a haven like Sheen to retire back to after a day up there…
With 2 bunk rooms and a wonderfully modernised interior, Sheen Bunkhouse is a cosy, comfortable base to explore the area.
Sheen in Staffordshire, is a quiet village perched on a gritstone ridge. The Staffordshire corner of the Peak District is quiet and little explored but there’s so much to see here. The Manifold Valley Track, Tissington Trail and High Peak Trail link to make some great flat(ish) cycling. They’re all ex-railway lines and their lengths are dotted with fascinating industrial heritage details.
Up on the tops, the moorlands of Flash and Longnor are as windswept and magnificent as any in Yorkshire or Derbyshire. It’d be great to have a haven like Sheen to retire back to after a day up there.
More sheltered are the valleys of the Dove and Manifold rivers which offer pleasant walks among some pretty impressive rock towers, caves and gorges. While we’re talking about impressive – explore ‘The Roaches’ jagged, ragged ridges with vertiginous peaks.
