At Ilderton Dod Barns we have 45 cows plus followers and almost all of them are dotted around the hills surrounding the accommodation. They’re Aberdeen Angus’ build to thrive at this altitude.
Ten of our yearling cattle have been put into our ancient juniper woodland as part of our stewardship scheme, to try to regenerate this SSSI within Northumberland National Park. They all live outside between May and November so many of our guests enjoy seeing the young calves trotting around. As well as the cattle, we have 650 ewes plus their lambs spread across the farm, so it’s hard to miss them!
