A great base for adventure and a peaceful haven to return to.
The Rookhow Centre bunkhouse (Lake DIstrict) is a little rustic gem. Its tacked on to the side of a 1725 Quaker meeting house which looks exactly as you’d hope it would. White washed stone walls and tiny windows all set within a glorious forest. The hostel is in the converted stables and has the usual dorm-style bunk rooms and shared facilities. But what about that woodland? It’s magical! Rookhow has 12 acres of mature mixed woodland with an orienteering course, bonfire site, and a Yurt hidden away.
Situated in the Rusland Valley, close to Grizedale Forest Park (home of the sculpture park) and halfway between Coniston and Windermere, you couldn’t ask for a more ideal Lake District location. With orienteering, walking, climbing and mountain biking straight from the door, it’s a great base for adventure and a peaceful haven to return to. The centre is hidden away within walking distance of Grizedale Forest, and with the Lakeland fells and lake shores just a few drive minutes away.
