Outdoor Alternative take sustainable tourism seriously and their banks of solar panels have generated over 45,000 kWh of electricity in the last 6 years, saving more than 30 tonnes of carbon from being released into the atmosphere. They also heat the hot water used in the bunkhouses using solar heating panels which contributes a further 5500 kWh to water heating. There is also a composting toilet for campers to save on water usage and plans are underway for an additional solar system to heat water for campers showers in 2017. No wonder they are a Green Tourism Business Scheme Gold Award holder.
