Mendip Bunkhouse Refurbishment

Mendip Bunkhouse is being considerably extended to provide greatly improved the facilities for members and guests.

Following a major flood in 2018 necessitating a lot of work to get the Bunkhouse back in operation it was decided to take the opportunity to considerably extend the property and greatly improve the facilities for members and guests.

The works have involved the replacement of the roof effectively creating a second story, and building into the very large space created, four bunk rooms of varying sizes plus the inclusion of two toilets and washing facilities. On the ground floor, one additional bunk room was retained and this can be used by physically challenged visitors if climbing stairs is an issue. Due to the freeing up of other space, the work has enabled us to provide a separate dining room and a drying room for walkers, divers, cavers and climbers to dry their wet kit after enjoying their favorite pursuits. The kitchen has been completely refurbished. The works have also enabled the provision of a greatly extended library and an equipment store for use by members of the Society.

As the Society is run by volunteers progress has been slow at times, but work is nearing completion.

So far, most visitors have been very impressed.
