Looking up at the dark sky in Dolgoch

Dark sky

Being remote we’re ideally placed for some of the best night skies in the UK. Perfect for the stargazer.

In 2015 Dolgoch was awarded Dark Sky status due to the quality of its dark skies. A Dark Sky preserve is an area that is free of artificial light pollution.Entries in our Visitors Book in Dologoch include entries by visitors who have observed the Milky Way, Venus and Jupiter, the Perseus meteorite shower, the Plough and the Great Bear as well as the huge number of stars visible in this area away from light pollution. One visitor commented that this has to be one of the best Dark Sky sites in the country; his visit was made memorable by seeing Orion rising over the mountain.
We welcome both amateur and professional astronomers to come to our hostels to observe the glory of the starlit heavens. It’s an experience that the whole family can enjoy too.
